Janet Riegle's writing and artwork reflect her fascination with birds. Though that interest bloomed later in life, the seed was planted early by her parents, who delighted in the many birds visiting the feeders in their Michigan yard. Janet's first pursuit was music; she taught flute and performed for many years. When hours of practice grew tedious, Janet found refuge outdoors. Enthralled with bird song, she sought out the singers, eventually abandoning her flute in favor of spending time with feathered musicians. Janet Riegle wrote the words and drew the illustrations for Piping Plover Summer. She is also a poet; Janet's poems have been published in Minnesota Birding and in Migrations: Poetry & Prose for Life's Transitions, an anthology edited by Sheila Packa and published by Wildwood River Press. Janet lives in northern Minnesota where she is now an avid and respected bird watcher who participates in bird counts and other research. |
