The LUPINE AWARD is designed to honor a living author or illustrator who is a resident of Maine, or who has created a work whose focus is Maine, as shown through the work’s characterization, plot or setting.
Connie Cushing, chairwoman of the Lupine Committee said, “I can’t say enough how much Kristin’s Wilderness touched us. While we look at many books each year, it is not often that one gets the sense as soon as it is taken from the box that it is something very special. Kristin’s Wilderness is the most remarkable book that I have read since being on the committee.”
For twelve years the Independent Publisher Book
Awards have been conducted annually to honor the year's best
independently published titles. The "IPPY" Awards reward those who
exhibit the courage, innovation, and creativity to bring about change
in the world of publishing. Independent spirit and expertise comes from
publishers of all sizes and budgets, and books are judged with that in
mind.

Presented by Jenkins Group and Independent Publisher Online, The
Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards are intended to bring increased
recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and to
support childhood literacy and life-long reading.

the prestigious national award presented by the John Burroughs
Association of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, N.Y.

The John Burroughs List of Nature Books for Young Readers, established
in 1988, is named in honor of the Hudson river naturalist and essayist.
A pioneer of nature study, John Burroughs (1837-1921) was one of
America's most widely read authors. A hundred years ago, his nature
essays for children were published in special school editions and
caused nature study to blossom in classrooms all over America. In
recognizing his efforts to awaken interest in young naturalists, the
Association has selected books that present perceptive and artistic
accounts of direct experiences in the world of nature.
The John Burroughs Association gives the award to encourage
writing in the Burroughs tradition. The Association also maintains
sites associated with the famous naturalist.
